The 2Go race series has been inspired by the countdown to the 2012 Olympic Games.

Saturday 12th September 2009 saw hundreds run a trail marathon through the picturesque Lee Valley, cabbies in a 5k heat and a free fun run.

All who took part in the three2go event were met with blue skies, great music, good food and very healthy happy people on Hackney Marshes featuring musicians Shkembe Soup, Summer Holiday, White Collar Weapons, Abraham and the Brothers Wild, London City Soldiers and teenage singing sensation Mas Trew. Cheerleaders Calthorpe Allstars who motivated runners on the day.

A particular focus for the 5K was the Fit@50+ and Cabbies on the Run; with a nine week fitness programme to motivate runners with little experience.

Golden Girls: Ready, Steady, Go!

These ‘wonder women’ with an average age of 60 are limbering up for the races.

Last year the four friends cycled a 3014-mile relay race from California to Maryland in an impressive eight days, five hours and 19 minutes.

Now they’re preparing for battle again – two are running the marathon and two the 5k.

Also known as the Serpentine Running Club’s “Golden Girls” they actively promote exercise among the over 50s.

Eddie Brocklesby, 66, who will run the 5k, said: “I ran my first marathon at the age of 54 and haven’t looked back. I don’t know where I would be without my sport – it has transformed my life.”

Alongside the races, there will be a FREE family festival at Hackney Marshes with a strong local community focus including four local bands, Mas Trew singing, entertainment for children and sporting challenges, which will be accessible to all.

Twins race Three2go

Twins Kathleen and Pauline Neita are putting their best feet forward as they train in unison for the Three2go trail marathon.

The identical sisters, 46, rely on each other to complete the 26-mile course, which begins in rural Hertfordshire and ends on Hackney Marshes. Having done Five2go and Four2go,and London Marathon this will be their fourth marathon together.

Kathleen, from Hackney, east London, said: “I love running with my twin as she’s fun and keeps me motivated. Having her for company is better than winning the Lottery.”

This will be the third time the twins joined forces to run the trail marathon as part of the 2go series.

Kathleen added: "We don't go for time, we just love running the course and soaking up the atmosphere. It's a great family day out."
