An Olympic and Paralympic first, the London 2012 Inspire Programme officially recognises outstanding non-commercial projects and events inspired by the Games. The Inspire Programme is entirely new, something that no previous Olympic Games and Paralympic Games has done.
Starting modestly, they are only granting Inspire status to a small number of outstanding projects and events which contribute to the Games lasting legacy.
INSPIRED BY LONDON 2012
The Olympic Games. The planets most far-reaching and unifying event. A showcase of the best of humanity; of sport culture and the arts.
The Paralympic Games. A celebration of athletic achievement rather than disability. A demonstration of powerful human values courage, determination, inspiration and equality.
Together the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games inspire the people of the world.
Two2Go are lucky enough to have been granted Olympic Games and Paralympic Games Inspire status for a number of our Two2Go events this year, both at our Get Ready 2Go launch event on Jul 24th and our Two2go main event on Set 11th:
- LARGACTYL2GO HISTORICAL GUIDED WALK IN ASSOCIATION WITH COOLTAN ARTS (Sept 11th only)
- CHALLENGER2GO FOOTBALL CHALLENGE IN ASSOCIATION WITH LEYTON ORIENT FC COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMME (Jul 24th & Sept 11th)
- CANIX UK (canine cross-country) (Jul 24th demo & Sept 11th race)
- TWO2GO NOVICE TRIATHLON (Sept 11th Only)
We at Two2Go are committed to encouraging sports participation for the over 50's as part of the lasting Olympic legacy as detailed in the London 2012 Olympic bid.
Over a third of the UK population are over 50, of these 9.7 million are over 65 . By 2012, 23%of the population will be over 50. Despite medical and public health advances, the majority of the over 50's population are living unhealthy, sedentary lives, with high smoking & obesity rates, and therefore raising the consequent risks of heart attack, kidney failure, stroke and cancers.
We at Two2Go believe it is never too late to take up exercise and sport. Our own Two2Go director, Eddie Brocklesby, took up running 17 years ago at the age of 50, and is now an active marathon runner, trithlete and ironman contest participant.
At our Two2Go events this year we encourage the over 50's, regardless of their fitness levels, to get involved. If a marathon or 10k run is too daunting a prospect, we are also offering Tai Chi classes, Bhangra and SoCa aerobics sessions, a historical guided walk , 3k run & family fun run, along with plenty of stalls detailing local sports classes and teams available in the local area.
At our Two2Go events, we are hopong to be able to offer health checks to measure general fitness levels and chart progress over time. So come along and be part of a very important study that is set to benefit everyone.
If you want to get Fit_50+, read about our project or simply for more info, click HERE
The 2Go race series relies heavily on volunteers and their generosity. This year we are looking for individuals willing to help us on both July 24th and Sept 11th. We need people to serve are race marshals along the marathon course, chip timing coordinators, registration coordinators and a range of other roles.
If you are interested in getting involved or for more information, please email us on: info_sportingbunnies.org.uk

Q: What is the marathon course like?
A: The Lee Valley marathon course is flat or gently downhill for its entire length. It follows the river down its very broad and gradual course down to the Thames at Leamouth. Surfaces are mostly firm, smooth towpaths, tarmac or other managed paths. Prospects for a PB are therefore good, as the only limiting factors are the width of the towpath, occasional anglers and cyclists, and three or so places where we cross a road.
Q: How do i get to the start / return after the marathon?
A: We are providing a coach service up to the marathon start at St Margarets, picking up from Stratford Rail Station and Hackney Marshes. There will also be a coach from Hackney Marshes back up to St Margarets after the race has finished. Each leg of the journey costs £5 per entrant to be paid on the day. I'm afraid we cannot provide transport for spectators.
Q: Is there a cut off time for finishing the Marathon?
A: the general cut off time for the marathon is 4pm, but we will make allowances for specific situations.
Q: What if i get lost along the marathon route?
A: This year we are providing extra marshals along the more remote parts of the course to ensure that nobody gets lost. Route maps will be provided to all entrants at the start of the marathon.
Q: Will water be provided along the marathon route?
A: Yes.There will be water stations at regular points along the route.
Q: What sort of running shows should i wear?
A: Although this course is classed as a trail marathon, road shows are perfectly suitable for the course.
Q: When will i get my runner number?
A: Runner numbers will be allocated at registration on race day.
